Iraq: Iraq: 3RP Monthly Update - September 2018: Basic Needs

KEY FIGURES: 245,000 Syrian Refugees expected by end-2018 250,184 currently registered 33 million (14.5% of total) required for Basic Needs 40% received HIGHLIGHTS Overall Basic Needs Assistance from January to August 2018: The Basis Needs sector, led by UNHCR, provided assistance through 2 modalities: Provision of Core Relief Items (CRIs) to vulnerable families mainly in the 9 camps where live and Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance mainly in the urban areas. The objectives of Basic Needs assistance are to:
Support the newly arrived families start their new life, Replace the used/torn items and Protect the refugees from winter cold (that goes below 0 °C Celsius) during 4 months (October to January). This objective is operationalized through provision of Basic Needs items (e.g. High thermal blankets, Insulated mattress, heating stoves, plastic sheets, Kerson’s Jerricans and Cash for winter ($ 400/household). Some 48,000 families were supported during winter 2017-18. In parallel of the distribution of the CRIs, UNHCR has disbursed some $ 13 million dollars ($ 400 per family to purchase Kerson for heating). In Duhok, the sector has started the first round the distribution of the hygiene kits for men and sanitary kits for women in the four refugee camps, reaching 4,671 households. Phase two of the distribution will commence on the first week of October. In Erbil, Tool Service Centers in the camps continue to provide services and tools for refugees to upgrade their shelters. 2053 activities were recorded.
